What are OIC-EW documentary requirements for examination?



Reference: STCW Circular No. 2014-09, STCW Circular No. 2015-03STCW Advisory No. 2015-21STCW Advisory No. 2015-24
  1. Accomplished OIC-EW Examination Form
  2. Birth certificate showing that the candidate is not less than 18 years of age (NSO authenticated);
  3. Approved seagoing service on ships of 750 kW propulsion power or more:
    1. Not less than 12 months as part of an approved education and training program, as Engineer Cadet, Engineer Apprentice, or otherwise as a trainee for certification as OIC-EW;OR
    2. Not less than 36 months in the engineering department;
  4. Approved Training Record Book (TRB) as proof of onboard training that meets the requirements of Section A-III/1 of the STCW Code, if in compliance with 2.1
  5. Daily Journal of Engine-room Watchkeeping Duties (DJEWD), as proof of engine watchkeeping duties under the supervision of the chief engineer officer or a qualified engineer officer for a period of not less 180 days, or its alternative, as outlined in STCW Circular 2014-2
  6. Valid Medical Certificate, which shall not be more than 2 years from the date of issuance, from DOH-accredited clinic/hospital with QSS in place, in accordance with Regulation I/9 of the STCW Convention; and
  7. Transcript of records with S.O. Number, from an accredited MHEI, as proof of successful completion of the approved education and training program that meets the standard of competence specified in Section A-III/1 of the STCW Code, or as otherwise approved by the Administration.
  8. For BSMarE students whose education and training started BEFORE June 2013: 
    Proof of successful completion of OIC Updating Training Part A.
